Google Chrome Users Beware

The past few weeks have seen numerous vulnerabilities surface in Google’s Chrome browser. The recent discovery was reported to be actively getting exploited on systems around the world. Fortunately, it’s easy to protect yourself. Although Chrome should update itself automatically, it’s a good practice to check to ensure the updates have been run. Here’s how to do it yourself. Click on the three vertical dots on the top right of your Google Chrome toolbar. Go to Help, then click About Google Chrome. The browser will then automatically update and will relaunch. Since this is just the most recent of numerous vulnerabilities discovered in Google’s Chrome browser this year alone, It’s a good idea to do this on a regular basis to ensure you’re kept up to date.

Often we speak of the importance of keeping your systems patched and antivirus up to date. Sometimes those required patches aren’t automatically applied. In other cases, you have to know to update specific applications because of announced threats like this, or because the software has become out of date and is no longer HIPAA compliant. If you’re the person in your organization responsible for making sure those tasks are being performed, depending on how your network is configured and what tools you are using, this can either be a simple chore or require you to visit each workstation on a regular basis.
